i want to know how safely i could remove a chipmunk without harming it.

Havahart traps you can purchase them at Lowe's and they are live traps. You
will have to release them in an area out of contact with population so they
can adapt and not come in contact with humans and have a chance of survival.
I have two out right now for opossums. I put them out this evening.
