Totally depends on the cat.
A good mouser is a very helpful thing for a house.
Ours is now about 12 years old, but is still very helpful
in many ways. A natural predator, and only near 8 pounds.
There were good reasons for Egyptians to like them.

1. mice, regularly, she enjoys the play, will often in good
hunting time stack them on front step for our approval,
then enjoys eating 'most' of them.
(quite exciting (!!!) when she makes 'mistake' and brings
live one into house ----- okay, I'll spell it out a bit for
those unable to track my thoughts. Door opens, cat thinks
time to come in and runs in carrying squeeking mouse in
mouth, female who opened door screams, cat hears scream
and gets a little freaky and drops mouse, more screaming
and much misc. activity. Whole house in uproar.).
2. rats, a couple each year, generally leaves them dead
in yard, in fact almost always 7' to 10' away from house.
3. moles, occasionally, also left in yard.
4. birds, snakes and lizzards, oh well, she is what she is!
(generally with birds, leaves skull legs and feathers on porch).

And on top of all that, she also teaches kids and dogs
about proper courtesy and respect. ((!!!))
She will allow the dogs to play with her and chase her
when she feels like it, when she doesn't, --- let's just
say both the 70 and 55 pound totally honor her wishes.

Might as well tell another one here. Cat on porch with
fresh bird. Door opens to let dogs out. Dogs stop to
see what cat is up to. Cat, feeling at that moment rather
generous thinks it might be nice to share her latest little
goody snackem with the big fur balls, and steps back
signifying she will let dogs have this fine snack.
Bird wiggles. So these two big 'water retrievers' finally
figure it out, and they are 'offended' to realize indeed
that the cat is a killer, so they start barking at her and
trying to chastize her for being a murderer!
She is what she is. After 'lecture', went back to crunch munch.

She used to be very aloof. Now she very much enjoys
sitting on my lap, or anyone other warm human. In training
our older dog she was maybe a bit too assertive. When
cat lays down near older dog, older dog gets nervious and in
couple minutes finds excuse to move away. So cat has been
more careful in 'grooming' younger dork dog. I suspect she
is thinking that is 55 pounds of warm fur that will be nice to
lay next to this winter.

And one last. As said before, our dogs will try to chase the
cat. But she is definitely 'our cat' and part of family. They
clearly go to defend her if any neighbor's cat or dog try to
get into it with her.

Yes. I've two opinions, but out of time now.
