Treating a laptop for bed bugs - Whitmire 565 PLUS XLO ?
|
|

| I'm told that freezing a laptop is a bad idea so I'm looking for other
means to ensure no BBs inside.
Can I put the laptop in a trashbag and spray the 565 in there? Aerosol or
Stream? How long do I spray? Is it OK to just wipe down the exposed
surfaces (including the keyboard) afterwards?

Bob freezing a laptop is not a good idea, Treating it with 565 might be your
best option as fumigation is a method used but not commonly called upon for
control of BB. With all of the other products on the market today such as
Gentrol, Suspend, and many others like those there is no longer a need for
fumigation for BB control. You may try the 565 in a plastic bag and see what
it does. You might also want to try a good stready regimen of vacuuming the
laptop for several days everyday maybe even twice a day and see if you can
vacuum them out. That way you are taking no chance with the laptop. That is
what I would do first and then if that didn't work I would try the 565.

I'd be afraid the 565 would be too much a chance to do damage to the
plastics/electronics of a computer due the solvents in the
aerosol...take the puter to a shop and have them open it up and clean
real well.

| Unfortunately, I've observed that vacuuming (at least with plastic tools)
seems to create hiugh amounts of static electricity - in a dusty
nevronment, the dust sticks to the outside of the hose like crazy. And
electrostatic charges are really bad for computers.
Thanks for the advice though, I do appreciate your response. It's just
that even with the Gentrol and Suspend, I want *none* of these damn things
around. The mere thought of taking them somewhere or guests picking them
up form my new place is a nightmare for me. i may be getting OCD over
these damn things.

| That would be my concern as well Lar but if he takes it to a computer shop
and tells them what the problem is they will more than likely tell him to
leave. If he were to get a good size plastic bag and use a small amount of
565 I don't think it would do any damage. I also don't know that it would do
any good for the problem at hand either. If he wants to get good control he
is going to need to get down inside the computer somehow and pesticides are
not going to be the answer. What about heat. What if he could find someone
to heat treat it for him. That may be the best option of all. Not steam just
heat.
Bob I wouldn't suggest trying this yourself because of the temperatures we
are talking about you could damage the laptop with them if you are not very
careful. But it would be for a much shorter period of time.
