Termites Everywhere in Condominium Complex.

| I am a new board member of my Condominium Association and need some
advice. You see, many condo units in our complex have termites and we
need to do something to nip this problem in the bud. The previous
board was unable to prevent or resolve this situation and now the
termites have migrated to a point where it is almost seems
out-of-control.
Six months ago, when I noticed my unit was infested with termites, both
inside and out, I had the sentricon system installed, but that doesn't
seem to have slowed them down yet. I had to pay for the system
personally, with no help from the Association, but now that I am a
board member I want to come up with a solution that will rid the entire
neighborhood of termites.
What can (should) be done????
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
All the best

| How long ago was the Sentricon installed ? It can take a few weeks.
There are stations available for areas of live active termites to begin
feeding immediately.

| Depending on the species of termites, you can use a liquid treatment
(preferrably Premise, Phantom or Termidor) or a termite bait system
(preferrably the Advance Termite Bait System - in my experience, it
works better than Sentricon.)
Where are you located?

The surest way to control them seems to be with a liquid treatment of
termidor, unless you are in New York then you would probably want to go
with Phantom. Time after time it stops them cold....with Sentricon, Dow
asks to give it up to 18 months for results. The Termidor treatment
will not only be the best treatment for yall, but in the long run will
also be the most economical for the Association.

| More than likely subterranean termites .
Condominium associations , IMHO , are a very hard sell pest control wise .
Potential issues will be chemical , accessability , liability , cost and
even politics .
Sentricon Termite Colony Elimination System has received federal
registration. As an important milestone toward commercial release, Dow
AgroSciences expects the next-generation bait to be available in early 2005,
in time for next year’s termite swarming season.
Recruit IV is expected to provide increased business flexibility and
continued ability to grow profits as a result of innovations in the bait
matrix and modifications to the monitoring schedule.
Like Recruit III, Recruit IV termite bait provides proven colony
elimination, using noviflumuron as the active ingredient for faster termite
colony elimination. However, Recruit IV offers more colony elimination
power because each Baitube device contains nearly twice as much bait.
Recruit IV also features a new unique bait matrix, called PTC (Preferred
Textured Cellulose), in the form of small briquettes that readily absorb
added moisture.
"Dow AgroSciences laboratory tests revealed termites prefer Recruit IV
termite bait in the form of PTC six times more, compared to the laminated
textured cellulose (LTC) matrix of Recruit III," said Michelle Smith,
product technologist for the Sentricon System. "These laboratory findings
have been backed up by solid results in the field. A number of Authorized
Operators performing field trials reported instances of 100 percent bait
consumption and fast colony elimination."
Aside from its innovations, Recruit IV also provides a flexible monitoring
schedule for Authorized Operators of the Sentricon System. Whereas they
previously monitored baited sites once a month, under the Recruit IV label,
Authorized Operators now have the option to monitor either monthly or every
other month.

| I find it interesting that Sentricon's biggest customer has stopped
using it in favor of ADVANCE from Whitmire.
