Rats and pheromones
|
|
|
| Hello. I've had a rat problem (Norway) over the last couple of months living
in my crawl space. All insulation has been removed, holes sealed, and I
think I'm in the clear now. However, I do know that my neighbors also have a
problem in their garage.
A couple questions. The crawl space has a urine odor. I'd like to disinfect
the area and I'm thinking a solution of bleach and water in a sprayer to do
the job. I'm also hoping the solution will rid the area of any pheromones
that may attract future rats.
Am I on the right track? Suggestions?
Thanks!

You might need to look into it more, but I wonder if an enzyme based
bleach, such a Biz, rather than chlorine based one would serve your
purpose more. I know at pet stores they sell enzyme based cleanser to
keep puppy dogs from being attracted to accident areas in the home.

| To add to what Lar has told you, to disinfect the area I would also
recommend the Biz rather than chlorine. However if you use it and still have
to odor and need to get rid of it use a solution of 1/2 brown apple cider
vinegar and 1/2 water. That will cut the urine smell right away. It will not
do anything to disinfect the area though. This soultion can be used on just
about any kind of urine odor with success, sometimes you may have to mix it
a little stronger for say animals such as cats and dogs.
