We had our house treated against termites last July. The job was done by
Terminix. Just yesterday I saw some termites on the outside body of the
house. I called Terminix and they said that it was normal. Could it be
normal? My understanding was that after the treatment the termites had no
chance for survival, provided the treatment was done by such a professional
company as Terminex.

I will be very grateful to anyone who would respond to this message.

After reviewing your question, and with the understanding that your
home has already been treated July '04, I would be somewhat concerned.
You claim that you saw termites on the outside "body" of your home.
I'm wondering if you observed a swarm? Mud tubes visible? Were you
doing landscaping work and you came upon some worker termites? That's
a hard call. Would you need to do is contact the Terminix branch that
performed the treatment, have them come back out, and make a "thorough"
inspection of the area that has been treated. I would at least get the
piece of mind.

Good Luck.

Just from what you say here is hard to tell what you seen. Terminix
will come running to check it out if they are any good. (fast) Lets
see how good service you get. It is not normal. Leave us know what they
said.

What kind of a job was it? Did they do a Liquid treatment with a product
such as Termidor or Premise or did they just do a spot treatment and place
out monitors, or did they not do any treatments and just place out the
baits?

Just yesterday I saw some termites on the outside body of the

What kind of termites did you see? Since you seen them I would say they were
swarmers, however that is just a guess. Can you describe what you seen, it
will help and will make a great difference in our advice.

I called Terminix and they said that it was normal. Could it be

Not only no but heck no this is not normal if the home was treated properly
with the products on the market today. There is the possibility of "pilot
error" which can happen but if treated with Termidor I have never had one
single retreat period.

My understanding was that after the treatment the termites had no

Again this should be the case but it isn't the company that could have made
a blunder it could have been the technician that treated the home. He may
have been having a bad day and did a poor job, that can and does happen. I
have seen it first hand. That is another reason why I am there on all my
treatments so even if I am having a bad day things still get done.

It would seem to me that Terminix would want to come check this out and make
sure of what is going on before this escalates into a damage claim on their
part.

Also if they try to put you off that it is only swarmers and they do no
damage, remember one thing for there to be swarmers there has to be a colony
as well which would mean workers are there too and they do the damage.

It could be normal that some swarmer came out of the woods or ties and were
carried by the wind to your house .
Termite swarmers ( or even ant swarmers ) are Not Normal Inside the home .
Termites swarming in masses out like an anthill beside the home is, also,
not good .

Dear Friends!

Thank you very much for responding to my message! I felt much better with
your support!
I followed your advice and asked Terminix to come for an inspection.
The inspector did not find any termites in the basement. He said that
whatever I saw on the the body of the house might not have been temites,
since they usually do not come outside -- they are afraid of the light. I
did not save the "creachers" for him to see, so he was not sure what I was
talking about.
I guess there is not much I can do at this point, but just watch it.

Best regards!
Irene
