| Just returned from training at a Naval Facility on Diego Garcia (Atoll
owned by the British in the Indian Oceam). Island has two species of
Coptotermes...one is most like formosanus, but could also be vastator. I
collected some samples but haven't looked them yet. Because of
environmental concerns, pest controller out there can't use soil
termiticides. Baiting is also difficult because the topsoil is only
about 4 inches deep at best. Above ground baiting could work, but
getting stations out to the island is problematic. Pest controller
received some free samples of Premise Gel and has given them a try, but
results are poor. Termites are infesting wood members (molding, door
frames, ceilings) of a concrete building. Paint layers are so thick that
termites are travelling under the paint on the walls. Ceiling in one
portion of building was replaced but nothing was done about termites.
Anybody out there ever try Premise Gel? Bayer website says it provides
"interior, localized control" for termites. According to the label the
formulation maintains a high moisture content that is attractive to
subs. Spot treating for subterranean termites seems a little sketchy to me.

It seems to me in a case such as you described that Premise Foam would be
much more effective if it could be used. Foam in behind the painted walls
you mentioned and you would get better results. I have heard of some people
using Premise Gel but I have not heard of any results sorry.

| Thansk for the reply. Not sure there is enough space behind the paint
to get the foam in there, but it is worth looking into. Will look for
more info on the Gel.

| I think I would try to inject Termidor into that area. Foam it if
possible. Or use a syringe with a needle to inject those areas.

There is a way that you could get it behind the paint and it wouldnt take
much to get rid of the termites either. The syringe or you could drill a
small hole in the paint where you could use a spray bottle and spray it
behind the paint and allow it to run down behind the paint that would be
more effective than the premise gel.
I was talking to a guy just a few months ago and he told me about a local
structure that was treated with nothing but Premise Gel for their Eastern
Sub problem. I emailed him and he said the results were not good, the
treating company had to go back and do a liquid treatment in order to stop
the termites. He didnt give me any details nor did I ask for any. After your
original post I got started thinking and our conversation came to mind so I
emailed him. He was more than a little dissappointed with Premise Gel.
I like Jeff's idea of the syringe to get behind the paint that would work
using Termidor.

Thanks for the info...I've been away for a couple of weeks and didn't
have access to the newsgroup. Termidor behind paint sounds like a good
idea. I'll email the shop supervisor out there and see what the status
of his problem is.
