Author Help! Termites in my wardrobe

Hi,
Recently I discover that my wardrobe has been infested by termites.
What a nightmare!!! I have all my cloth inside and it stink like hell.
This is really the worst

thing you can have in your life! Why me? I keep my room hygiene, I
clean my room often, I keep insect repellent ball in my wardrobe, is
this not enough to

keep these bastard away?

After some research on the net, I'm still not quite sure wether it's
drywood or subterranean termites. I have found something that looks
like pellets produced by

drywood termites in my wardrobe, so I guess it should be drywood
termites. But then I also found mud shelter tubes on the floor in my
bath room. If I'm not

wrong, only subterranean termites build mud shelter tubes. I'm now
confuse what type of termites I have.

Below is my question:
1)I live in 5th floor of a private apartment, can(or will) subterranean
termites go such a long way from beneath the ground up to 5th floor of
a building? Isn't it

they have to return to the ground every day?

2)Other than the mud shelter tubes I found in my bathroom, threre is
also some mud like thingy in my wardrobe, it is a bit sticky on the
surface where it is on

and it usually goes in a straight line along the edge of something I
put in wardrobe. And no, it doesn't looks like a shelter tube at all as
it is rather thin, any idea

what is this?

3)I found that the cardboard I keep in the upper deck of my wardrobe
has also been targeted by the termites, assuming it is drywood
termites, is it feasible to

use bait method to kill off the termites? I have read that bait won't
work on drywood termites but I think if the critters come out to eat
the cardboard, won't they

also eat the bait as well?

4)I have come acroos such powder from a local store that claims to
eliminate termite colony. accroding to the description, it is not
chemical and thus cause no

hazard to human. How it works is when the worker termites make contact
with the powder, it will bring back(unconsciously)the powder to their
colony, through

a process called groomimg in which the termites rub each other the
powder will pass through one termite to another, this powder has a
dehydration effect on

the termites and will kill the termites slowly allowing it to spread.
I have search through the web and fail to find any termite control
method that works this way. Is this really works or just a scam?

5)Assuming the powder mentioned in question 4 really works, I plan to
place some cardboard in my wardrobe and sprinkle some powder on it,
this will act as

a bait, do you think this will work?

Sorry for the lengthy post and thanks for yuor time. Any help will be
very much appreciated.

After reviewing your problem, you had mentioned "pellets" which is
common from drywood termites, and mudtubes on the floor which is
produced from subterranean termites. What concerns me is that you are
on the 5th floor. Subterranean Termites will continue to build their
mudshelters for as long as they can exhause the wood source for their
food.
Drywood Termites can show up just about anywhere.
The other thing you mentioned is that you live in a "private" apartment
which indicates to me that you are living in a condominium?
I would notify either the apartment/condominium managment (homeowners'
association) of this episode. In some cases since you pay
rent/mortgage they will assume responsibility for treatment.
Also, if you have stored items that are made of wood, make sure you
check those as well. Clothes that may be ruined, etc, document these,
take pictures, and make a log as far as the damage cost and report this
to the management and make them aware they you will hold them
responsible for replacement.
As far as over the counter products you could buy a simple can of bug
spray which will kill what's there. However, it will NOT be your cure
all.
I strongly suggest that your landlord/management be aware of this so
that can take immediate action on this and get professional treatment.
Good Luck.

You would need to have a proper inspection done to know what you are
dealing with. Under the right conditions you could have subs that high
and not have to return to the ground. The pellets may be from drywoods
or they could be from another type of pest and the inspection would tell
you what you are dealing with

Thanks for your information. This unit is actually a rented one. I'll
just inform the owner and let him worry about the termites. If this is
subteranean termite, I'm still not understand how they manage to get in
as I don't see any mud tube coming in from outside.

They can make use of an entry the width of a pencil mark. It could be a
colony that had gained access to the structure, found an alternative
water source above ground (a couple of stories up) and are actually are
from there, not having to return to the ground.
