i was not aware that binaries were allowed in a regular alt. newsgroup.

per the posting of: Rob P <rpalino@mailandnews.com>
subj: Identify this bug? ;-)

which, for some reason, refused to open on my mac.
izzit because it IS a mac that it would not open??

thanks, in advance.

AFAIK, they aren't. Simply aren't filtered out before arrival in many
non binaries groups so appear anyway. Generally it seems they should
be posted somewhere else appropriate with info on where to view them.

You might check the FAQ for this group (if it has one) for authorative
information but my impression is that groups without "binaries" in
their names should be assumed inappropriate for posting binaries and
news servers always take such a postion.

The platform difference is likely the cause of your problem opening
it unless it was a yEnc post (I see you're using Outlook Express) or
there was a problem with the binaries posted.

I don't find the post so can't download and see if the binaries
attatchment(s) work for me.
