| I just received a pound of the herb Tansy which I've been told is an
excellent fly repellant. I've filled two small Muslin bags with it, in
my mom's room. She is confined to her room pretty much 24/7/365, and
recently the flies have invaded.
It's hard finding very specific info. about its applications, however.
In other words, just how much to use per x amount of space, how long
will it stay fresh and effective, etc. Her room is medium to large
sized, by the way.
I noticed earlier, when in her room, that I DID hear a fly (I'm hoping
it was a mosquito, but it probably WAS a fly), but unlike other times,
it didn't seem to keep buzzing around my ear and lingering around, so
I'm "keeping my fingers crossed." I was of course a bit disappointed;
was hoping it would have deterred the "beast from hell" (as I regard
flies) from coming into the room altogether, but maybe it IS already
having somewhat of a repellant effect.
Last year, I tried Basil in Muslin bags, at the suggestion of an author
named Miles Bader. I didn't purchase his book, but was going by his
advice as given on an infommercial over the radio. I tried it, and it
didn't seem to particularly work, as I recall, but then again, maybe I
didn't use enough of it. I have a bit more faith in Tansy, however, as
a woman I spoke to at a health food store said that a relative of hers
uses it in a breezeway of her house, and apparently it repels them
completely, PLUS, I came across an article online from a woman whose
missionary sister used it in Africa, in her socks, duffel bag, etc.to
repel all kinds of critters.
Also, does anyone know of sources for sprays made from herbs like Tansy
to repel flies?
Would appreciate any feedback and info. on this topic.
