Author please identify these New Mexican ants

observed by a friend's patio on the west side of the
Rio Grande in Albuquerque:

The bodies are a good 3/8" (9mm) long.

<guessing> one of the harvester ants...maybe P.rugosus or rough
harvester ant.

Yup, rough harvester ants looks like the best bet. Watch out because
those suckers sting readily and hurt like hell!
