Worms in the House
|
|
|
| Over the last couple of weeks, I have found worms ranging from aobut 4
inches to 9 inches long in my living room. The backdoor into the living room
is shut as are all the windows. Most of the worms are found near the
backdoor but yesterday I found one about eight feet away. Any idea how they
are getting in if everything is sealed? ( A couple of years ago I found one
trying to get in on the side of the door, just above the hinge. )
Or could they be baby worm snakes?
Either way, any idea how to keep them from getting in?

| Baby worm snakes? :D
If you could take a picture of them and post the link here, that'd
help. Take a few pictures, including the door open and closed.
Snakes are snakes... worms are worms. I'd love to see a picture of
what you found.
Worms will squirm to the surface when the gound becomes too saturated
or if you electrocute them. Why they'd go inside your house I have no
idea. They're not attracted to light... hmm...
Anyone else got any ideas?

| Everyone thinks I'm pulling their leg when I mention wormsnakes. Here's a
link so you can all see it's a real thing:

And since I live in NC, I put up this link.
The back door is never kept open. And when outside there doesn't seem like
there's any way they could get in. I once saw one trying to get in on the
side of the door just above the lowest hinge. How they get to the side of
the door I don't know.
I also spray cypermethrin around the outside of the back door and near the
windows so I'm guessing those chemicals don't deter whatever it is that's
getting into my house.

Should be easy to tell if you are having worms or snakes....snakes have
eyes and scales, worms do not. I have gotten calls on both usually after
heavy rains, though snakes can be active this way at any given time.
More than likely everything only "appears" to be sealed, but apparently
isn't. If they are actually earth worms or even flat worms not sure you
can even get the home sealed enough to keep them out. The weather
stripping around the door threshold would be my first suspect area.

| Wow, there really are worm snakes. I'd just grab whatever is crawling
around, thump it, squeeze it, insult it and see if it bites.
