I have rats burrowing under a storage shed. At the front it is level
with the ground, at the rear it is about 2 feet off the ground. How do
I keep them out once I get rid of them so they don't come back?

HELP!!!!!

Hard to say without seeing the layout but probably would place baited
outdoor bait stations about the yard to keep the numbers down and lessen
the chance of populations nesting.

If it's just a storage shed, there is a way to do it, but it is quite
labor-intensive.

Measure the footage around the building. In other words, if the shed
is 8 feet by 8 feet the linear footage would be 32 feet.

Go the hardware store and buy 1/4 inch "hardware cloth" in the
appropriate length. I would buy near 1/2 the length and cut it in
half, so you get the whole length but not all the extra width.

Dig a trench around the shed about 8 inches deep and at least 1.5 feet
wide.

Put the hardware cloth in the hole so you can attach the top of the
cloth at least 1-2 inches above the bottom of the shed. You can use
screws or Liquid Nail to attach it.

Be sure the hardware cloth goes down at least 8 inches and travels
horizontally enough that the bottom won't poke out of the ground.

Once the hardware cloth is attached, bury it up-to the bottom of the
shed or just a little lower (to help keep water out of the shed).

Rats will reach the shed, try to burrow and find the hardware cloth
blocking them. They will move around and try different areas but will
find no way in.

*WARNING*
If there is still a rat under there, it will either die there or chew
it's way through the floor or a wall to get out.

Baiting might be good to kill the ones already there before you
"exclude" them.

Like I said, labor intensive, but its just about permanent.
