The excrement the bedbugs produce DOES look like ground pepper...
except that it's much wider and flatter and its stuck to whatever they
pooped on.

I've seen it as little as a few specks in one place to copious amounts
in another (Think C.S.I. crime scene where someone's been shot).

Also, when their numbers really build up, they tend to stink. It might
be them or it might be their excrement.

If its new, it'll be reddish. If it's old, it'll look like a scab.

Yes, it does look like you knicked yourself shaving an hour before you
went to bed. Not runny, but still there.
