We discovered carpenter ants in an outside wall in the bathroom. They are
getting into the house through an opening above the bathroom window that
was never sealed when the window was installed (before we bought the
house).

I have used ant baits and poured a powdered insecticide into the crack
which have slowed the advance into the house but I know it hasn't killed
the nest.

So should I try drilling holes in the wall and spraying them myself or
hire a pro? If I hire a pro what questions should I ask? Any tips on
hiring a pro?
thanks.

If you want to do it try a search for Advance Carpenter Ant bait and use it
the way the label tells you to and you will get rid of them. If you want to
hire a pro you certainly can't go wrong, however get one that is going to
use a Phantom inside and Termidor Outside treatment and your ant problems
will be over for at least a year maybe more. That would be the only
questions I would really ask is if they are using the BASF inside out
program. If not look for someone that is.
