Fluoride as an insecticide
|
|
|
| I came across an old can of insect killer that looks to be around 50 years
old. According to the label the only active ingredient is fluoride. I opened
the can and observed an ivory colored powder. Do any of you old timers in
this group know anything about this stuff? Would it be effective against
brown recluse spiders?

Fluorides are toxic but I don't think selective. Doubt if spiders would
be attracted to it but if they pick it up in their travels and get it in
their systems it should kill them. I would not use in the presence of
pets or kids.

| The active ingredient, is it just flouride or could it possibly be sodium
flouride?

Fluorie based insecticides were some of the nastier ones on the
market...doubtful it would be an aid in recluse spider control.

| The name on the label is "Rockwell's Roach Rid". The active ingredients are:
sodium fluoride 77%, sodium silico fluoride 2%, inert ingredients 21%.
