I thought this was fascinating. Now, lets see if we can figure out if
propane is cheaper at 2.00 for a 16 ounce (one pound) bottle. Versus 3.00 or
so a galon for kerosene.

I'm on "therm billing" and a quick call revealed that a therm is 100,000
BTU. So, looking at a typical bill, it cost me $68 to get 13 therms
delivered. Or about $5.25 a therm.

In terms of propane in 16 ounce bottles, it would take about 5 bottles, or
about $10.00 produce a therm.

It would take about 3/4 galon of kerosene to produce a therm, which would be
about $2.00.

In refillable propane bottles (twenty pounders) I havn't priced them lately.
But with the other fellow's figures, $14 for 20 pounds is about .75 a pound.
Needing 5# propane per therm, would be about $3.75 per therm.

When the electric is out, and the furnace is dead, it's well worth ten bucks
a therm. And kerosene is cheaper, but I have to drive to the store to get
it.

"Is it cheaper to use kerosene or propane for heating
, when kerosene is about $2.50/gallon and propane about $14/20 lbs?"

A quick Google gives about 135,000 btu/Gal for Kero and 21,600
btu/# or 91,000 btu/gal for Propane. I will leave the rest of the math
to you.

Ok, do it now just using therms for calculations.

What is the cost of each fossil fuel compared to electric, using a therm as
a standard.
You can fill in the cost of fuel as you wish, I've done it for electric
HINT, Paul has a good program to help you with this, its about $50 and well
worth it.

1 therm by propane costs?
1 therm by Oil Costs?
1 Therm by N.G costs?
1 Therm by electric @12 Cents costs?
1 Therm by electric @ 5 Cents costs?
1 Therm by 3.5 COP HP @ 47degrees and 5cents/KW?
1 Therm by resistance heat @ 5 cents a KW?

Get this done and we will talk about it.

I've got an Excel spreadsheet to do just this. E-mail me if you want
a copy.

This wont help Stormy learn though. I figure that he's going to continue on
in this trade no matter what, so I thought I would cause him to think out a
few things.

I've got one too, but I'm always interested in another program, Take the two
LL s off the email and you will have the correct email. Don't send it to
Stormy yet, lets see where he stands on knowledge first and get a civil
discussion going.
