American Standard Furnace Problem
|
|
| Aurora 2005-10-27, 8:21 pm |
| Have an 8 yr old American Standard Freedom 80 Furnace. It is making
strange noise at beginning of heating cycle - prob inductor fan. Only
happens when furnace is running frequently. Technician suggested we
adjust our thermostat to reduce cycling frequency, but noise is still
occurring. Sounds terrible. Ideas? Do we need to replace something?
(I live in the Arctic & don't want to have the furnace go off in the
middle of winter!)

Reply: Sir, all you will find in this NG is a bunch of anti-consumer
problematic examples . Not all Techs are like this. They are a discredit
to the Trade.
You need to have a different Service Tech come out and closely inspect
the Draft Inducer Fan Motor. He will check the amp draw , voltage,
etc...to see how it is. Look on the top of the motor itself and see if
there are oil holes on the back and front ... close to the top. If so,
put in a few drops of lightweight oil . If the noise doesnt go away,
then, the bearings in the motor are getting bad and youll need to
replace the entire Inducer Assembly , soon. This is all assuming the
noise youre describing is in fact coming from the Inducer Assembly.
While the furnace is making the noise, push against the Inducer motor to
see if the noise pitch changes any ; if it does, then, the noise is
coming from it. Good luck. P.S. WHere does someone who lives in the
Arctic go on vacation ?! To balmy Alaska ?!!!

This is Turtle.
If you live in the artic and can freeze to death if your heat goes out. Call
your HVAC service man back up and tell him to stop the Strange noise. Don't
accept NO for a answer !
i see a few everyonce in a while of all brands where the inducer fan bearing are
getting weak and will start making noise and they will be the funny little
noisey ones.
