InterTherm Electric furnaces.

| This is Turtle.
i have worked on 3 Trailor House InterTherm Elect. Furnaces this week
and all three don't have any serial numbers on them. they have a
universal model number but there is nowhere to be a serial number. One
had a model number of E2EB-15H or -017H but no serial number no where
on it.
i called Intertherm about this and talked to just about nobody but one
told me that they did sell the electric air handlers to large moble
home manufactors to assemble as they please in different application.
they also said that the trailor house company was going to warrant the
air handlers theirself and intertherm was out of it. So if you don't
put a serial number on the air handler , you don't have to warrant it.
Also I need to see if anybody has a better wiring diagram of the
E2EB-15H air handler that is better than the one on the cover of the
electric door or the one off their website. They are really mickey
mouse to say the lest. yes I had a customer who was working on it and
took all the wires off the electric panel and could not get it back
together. A Peer of mine in the HVAC business got this call and then
called me to come see. then I ask here to get a real
reasoniable wiring diagram to follow or I will put the wiring system
back like I want it and the wiring diagram will be useless after that.
The people will be out of the trailor for 2 or 3 days and I have a
little time to get one.

Thats bullshit.
Sorry...but I work on those all the time, and InterTherm WILL warranty the
parts and guess what dipshit? There is a serial number on the units....its
normally on a metal tang, rivited to the unit, either on the lower right
hand side of the machine, on the electrical cover panel, the one with the
two screws on top, and teh two on the lower front side, or, its on the upper
left side, above the transformer....

Your local InterTherm dealer has them.
If you had not been such a dickhead, Id fax you one, but in the interest of
helping even those that do not warrant it..I can give you the number to an
InterTherm supply here that will be more than happy to help you.

never seen a tag like that on one... worked on 4 of them yesterday, had to
re-wire 2 of them.
Real simple, real basic wiring... you just have to lay on the floor to do
it.

Maybe so..... and FWIW, I install a 3 amp fuse on the load side of the
transformers on them. There are some that did come with circuit boards, and
I have had to replace a few of those... had a landlord got pissed last week
because I wouldn't change a unit over from the CB to sequencers...especially
when I told him that if I did, he was going to have to sign a release of
liability statement, and that he was to take full responsibility for
*anything* that happened with the unit from terminating the UL listing and
his insurance coverage. I packed up and left... haven't heard from him
since. I'll have to watch the news to see if he calls "Billy-Joe-Jim-Bob"
and they burn the place down.

Got one now that the landlord isnt happy about...
His hack went out in the summer and replaced the motor, and of course,
ripped out the Molex and just wired it with a SPST relay, removed the
sequencers, and put in a contactor for the strips, and didnt take into
account the AC...he wired it just like it would have been with just straight
heat on the newer models.
But...
Wait..the newer models have a sequencer in them...lol
I priced out a new unit, based upon age of the existing unit, the fact hes
got a heat pump on the home, and by the time you rewire and put everything
back right, add the heat pump control box from InterTherm, hes got more into
it than a new one would cost...
So, I tagged it, took a picture of the unit with my tag on it that states
that the unit was damaged by a previous tech, and sent the estimate....aint
heard back but the renter has called.
Got another one, Trane downdraft air handler, mated to an old as the hills
Rheem straight AC, rented as having a heat pump..old GMC (GE brand) HP
stat..previous renters had ripped the Trane HP off outside, put this on its
last legs Rheem in, sweats to lineset looked like bubble gum..no heat...
two of the three strips were burned out, the AC of course was coming on with
the heat...restrung the strips, flipped it to EMER and called the
landlord...
I was told to leave it like it was and get out. If she had ANY heat at all,
she was happy...the kicker?? Since there was obviously nothing really wrong
with the unit, and I just wanted to charge her...(her words) she wasnt going
to pay anything.,
How wrong she is..

I just installed an EB3EB-20H 2 weeks ago... it came out of the box with
contactors in it, no sequencers at all.

I wonder what she would have done if it had been *her* home.

i don't have a problem of wiring around anything but every wire is off
of it and I will have to even put the switches and parts back in there
to start wiring it back up. all wires and parts are gone and will have
to start from scratch at nothing on it. The wiring diagram has places
where they don't address somethings and it has no wire color as to
where they go. i have a line on a intertherm dealer out of baton Rouge
that is suppose to get back with me this morning.

They have the wiring diagrams, wiring harnesses(with the molex connectors),
and any other parts you could need. All they carry is Intertherm trailer
stuff.

Thanks there , i may have to use him if this other fellow does not send
the wire diagrams soon.
Hey , i loaned this customer my three small forced air electric wall
heater to just plug into 120 volt wall plugs and has thermostat, fan ,
and 2 levels of heat 750 watts and 1,500 watts. the old lady got one of
these and told the other not to fix the central heat for she had what
she wanted. She can have here room very hot and the other parts of the
house cold at nite.

Beings as having reliable heating seems to be a REAL big issue in your neck

Not bad..
Much lower and we're getting into frequent defrost cycles, depending on the
outside humidity--then we start into supplementing with backup as the heat
pump capactiy simply drops too damned low in this area.

having a reliable heating system is right next to mowing your yard and
making it look good. some customer will not call about no heat for
about 3 or 4 days because they forgot to call me. most people here has
back up heat if the central unit goes out.

Backup is definately a given here, heat pumps its a thermal balance issue
mostly.
The smart fellas here will oversize their heat pumps for heating and then
stage them, what with electricity being fairly cheap locally...otherwise,
backup will be fossil fuel--generally being a bit more expensive to
operate--and not always readily available except as oil or propane, both
needing to be trucked in.
Cooling load here is generally pretty small, with most older homes having no
a/c installed at all--this being a luxury, almost.
Oh well...time to put another log on the fire...we'll seeya later, maybe...

the wiring it myself really is not a throw together wiring job but i
have a wiring diagram of a Goodman simple air handler like a A-36-10 or
A-42-15 and just copy it to wire it. this is a very simple wiring job
and does a good job. a warehouse man for Goodman years ago ordered 10
wiring diagrams for the standard A-42-15 with the sticky stuff on the
back to stick on the furnaces if it did not come with one. he ordered
10 and they sent him 10 Dozen wiring diagrams. he needed 10 and got 120
of them. He give me the rest and when every I can't get a wiring
diagram for a unit and it stopped or wire it on your own. i just wire
it to the A-42-15 air handler. then give them a wiring diagram to stick
on the air handler blower door.
Really just butcher wiring a air handler is really not safe or niece to
do.

i just left a call for no heat this afternoon and they had a hole in a
old Day & nite natural gas furnace fire chamber. I could stick my hand
through it. the fellow said well i will get back with you when i can
get the money together. We discussed it and it would need 3 -- 1,500
watt bath room heater to do his whole house this whole winter. He had 2
and would pick up one more. he said it would be spring before he could
change it out. I disconnected the gas and pulled the burners and filled
the firechamber with the hole in it with a can of styrofoam. it was
blowing out so bad it was cooling the Attic area.
We use Bathroom heater for back up. 3 -- 1,500 watt bathroom heater
will do a 2,000 square foot home.

Yeah, all the ones I've seen are wired basically the same....
Usually it's one or more sequencers had gone bad, and someone took loose too
many wires all at once, then they got all confused as to how to put it back
together with no schematic to go by.
===
My biggest XXXXX is that the schematics are always laid out like some
fucking Chilton's manual...usually, you need a magnifying glass to even be
able to read them...it's like ink and paper was deemed too damned expensive
or something....
I really appreciate nice, large 'ladder style" diagrams--( machine tool
techs probly being a bit spoilt, admittedly )...so, I actually do feel kinda
sorry for hvac guys--the equipment manufacturers could do much better, IMO.

So is Miller. The basic wiring is the same in most all air handlers with
strip heat... the only real difference is if you got to lay on your belly to
fix the thing.

I haven't needed the wiring diagram after I did the first dozen or so. FWIW,
I will normaly convert all the dual transformer systems I run across to
single transformer systems. That simplifies things for the next time around.

Around here I don't get to see many trailor house units for they have
the Trailor house sales places with a service department that will do
the service call job dirt cheap , Toll free number, and sell you every
part in the unit. They are salesmen and not servicemen. I only see the
ones that by changing every part did not fix it. The reason they do
this is to get you to buying stuff from them for your trailor house.
They have all small appliances to fit in small holers and all the odd
ball parts including hot water tanks and plumbing supplies. Go down to
Walmarts or Home Depot and ask for a Propane or Electric Refrigerator ?
These Trailor House company are the next Service Company to deal with
coming out now. You had Sears and all the big Box store and now the
Trailor House companys tring to make a run at it. When they sell a
trailor house [ Sorry Modular Home ] they put their name and toll free
number on everything in the trailor house to call if you have trouble
with it. You can call about a Oven and when he gets there after fixing
it get to look at all new carpet books or all new bathroom fixtures. He
will have all the Books to look at or buy them. The reason I know this
is a fellow here in town call about a Oven and bought all new carpet
for his house from the same fellower. A New Big Box Store on Wheels.
