Author Strange cylces on Carrier 58GP100-BA

My Carrier 58GP100-BA has what I think is a strange cycle. It starts
with the burner running for 1 minute. Then the blower kicks in, and 15
seconds later the burner shuts off. The blower will run for 2 min, 45
seconds before it shuts off and the burner turns back on and the
process repeats. A timetable is shown below.

t=0 Burner turns on
t=60 Blower turns on
t=75 Burner turns off
t=240 Blower turns off, Burner turns on
t=300 Blower turns on
etc.

A few years back the whole thing shut down because of a blown thermal
fuse. That was replaced and things seemed to be back to normal, though
the system never seemed to operate correctly. On cold nights (lows
around zero) the upstairs of my house couldn't break 60. Could be an
old house issue (insulation), I dunno, but it gives some insight into
the blowers effectiveness.

If you think it's a cracked or ruster heat exchanger (seems to be a
common malady) can you tell me how (if) that can be replaced and at
what cost. Better to just replace the whole thing?

Thanks for any input.

Signal verifying your fuel has actually ignited is missing else the circuit
recieving it is bad.

And since you couldn't figure out at least this much on your own then
suggest you should call in a pro.

Thanks Bubba. Keep in mind that I'm not a pro (I have an EE degree and
have done plenty of electrical work so I'm no stooge either though). I
figure I can pick up the part at a local repair shop, but I don't know
the exact specs of what I need. The furnace came with my house and
without a manual. Couldn't find one online, which didn't surprise me
due to the furnace's age (mfr. 8/86). Any idea where one could be found?

BP- Don't look for help in this forum. These guys are a bunch of
fucking XXXXXXX's that will try to mislead you however they can. Feel
sorry for them- you see that's all they have to do is spend their time
on alt.hvac forum playing with each others putz's and trying to jerk
other people off.

An EE! Gee, I would have never guessed. Do yourself a favor. Find
another technician.......A GOOD one and stop messing with something
that can easily kill you.
You DONT have a clue what you're doing.
Try a DuctBooster if that thermostat doesnt work.

That EE doesn't make you a *competent*, licensed, insured, professionally
trained, HVAC technician...for that matter that EE and a buck will get you a
cuppa coffee at Dennys.

> I figure I can pick up the part at a local repair shop

Not without make, model, serial number and part number.

> but I don't know the exact specs of what I need.

This is where you go to the YP and call a tech

You local *competent*, licensed, insured, professionally trained, HVAC
technician will be able to get one for you.

Its probably best that you let your fingers do the walking.

BTW FWIW, calling a plumber to do HVAC work is like going to a proctologist
to get your dental work done....pretty much the same deal with the average
run of the mill EE. Gotta love those $ervice call$ after an EE has screwed
with a system.

Dude, you just got your panties in a wad cause your too fuckin cheap to pay
a tech to do the job correctly and give you a warranty, and too ignorant to
know when your getting your chain jerked, and too stupid to know when
something is beyond your grasp of simple electricity, physics and
thermodynamics. You like so many others got given the correct answers yet
you chose to ignore tham and get pissy when you get told something you don't

I wasn't told something I didn't want to hear. I came here for a little

wonder how many people came here for help and you fuckers jerked them
around buying parts they didn't need - because they dared to trust you

expense. And you think I would trust one of you motherfuckers to fiix

First off you stupid retard............
Why anyone would listen to anyone on how to fix something without
knowing that you have professional correct advice proves how stupid
you are. Its not like you asked how to do an oil painting. You wanted
professional advice on how to repair something that could keep your
home safe and warm and also .............potentially kill you and
everyone in the home. You got exactly what you came and paid for.
Nothing for nothing. Now try like the rest of the population and go
pay for it...........hopefully from a licensed professional that gives
a warranty. Now stop your damn whinning and watch that the door doesnt
hit you too hard on the way out.

Hey Peckerwood, why the fuck do you think you can waltz right in here and
demand free technical advice? What the fuck did you ever do for us? I'll
bet you didn't even offer a donation for the minion Christmas Party in the
basket by the door.

Yeah, go ask for help on the Internet for your furnace. It is only a huge
bomb waiting to go off and blow your house to bits or maybe burn it up in a
huge fireball. Or maybe you don't even think about all the carbon monoxide
that can kill you and your family while you sleep.

You sound like a real winner, a cheap fuck who doesn't care about his
family.
