Furnace turns on with thermostat but will not cut off. Changed with working
stat from next appartment, same result. Furnace is old American Standard
natural gas, no wiring diagram. Any suggestions?

We've been having lots of problems with stats. Change to a good
digital programmable electronic stat. That usually fixes 95% of the no
heating problems.
If that doesnt work, come back for more. We can "get er done"

Try sharpening the blade. That should help it cut off better.

Sounds like maybe with your fucking around with it here you've somehow
gotten your *W* and *Y* terminals crossed up or jumpered--but that's just
a guess.

Suggest time to call in a pro.

The apartment manager can get it done cheap whenever they get around to it,
or the tenant can pay to get it done right the first time with a warranty,
then take it out of the rent. :-)

Bad contactor. I saw this a couple years ago. Couple friends of mine had
gone through four thermostats (not kidding). Only way they could turn off
the heat was the switch on the side of the furnace.

Hey Mikey,
Please stop the same drival post. We could use a little flair in your
post. Talk intelligent for me. I need a good laugh.
So maybe you got that $80 dirty filter changed and the $126 dollar
thermocouple all at the same time? It must suck to be you.

You don't need an apartment manager to change thermostats. Maybe picking up
the phone requires one? If i can pick up a phone does that qualify me as
apartment manager? If I pick up more phones do I get to manage more apartments?
Now these are hard wired phones so if I pick up a mobile phone then can I be a
mobile home manager?
