| Looking for suggestions on what may be causing the following:
Thermostat is set to about 75 degrees and it's running high 80's
outside. When temp reaches 75 or 76, A/C clicks on, furnace fan runs,
but compressor outdoors does not. The remedy to this is to raise temp
on the thermostat until fan stops running, then turn thermostat to "off"
position. Then when the level is set to "cool," everything starts up
normally and air is cooled.
This happens a couple of times a year and no one knows the cause.
Circuit breakers have been ok, fuses are fresh, freon levels are good.
This unit is about 8 years old. Outside component is hosed off
regularly and sits on a cement slab. The thermostat is a PSP 500
digital (batteries haven't been replaced in a while but there is no "low
battery" indication on the digital screen).
Any suggestions or ideas? Thank you.

There is probably nothing wrong at all except user ignorance. Odds are
that there is a time delay in the condensing unit or in the t-stat, or both.

| Possible causes of not coming on all the time:
1) Undersized thermostat cable. If it is 22 gauge wire instead of 18
gauge wire, there may be too much voltage drop to pull the contactor in
every time. This is especially true if the line voltage is marginal.
2) Bad connection im the low voltage circuit. Check all wire nuts and
screw terminals.
3) flaky field installed time delay relay in the outdoor unit.
4) Swarf on the contactor. (Look that up in your Funk & Wagnals) :-)
5) Flaky thermostat, especially if it was a cheap home center model.

The LENNOX label on the condensing unit is VERY bad.

**My suggestion is to do this:**
