Rarely anyone fine tunes the system at installation and startup, it's
more profitable to go back later and fine tune as necessary. That isn't
my personal philosophy, that's just the way it is. And because of this I
get to find all sorts of groovy problems to diagnose and correct. Makes
my job more interesting If there were no hacks in the business, and
the manufacturers provided clear instructions for the installers, and if
they provided reliable equipment, then I'd be out of a job. My primary
issues with hacks are the many safety issues that they neglect and the
poorer people who can't afford the callbacks and higher utility bills
that are left to them.
As for those that do take the time, yes they will adjust cfm as
necessary. The Carrier 48SS gaspak for instance comes shipped from the
factory set on low speed. On most installations this is insufficient for
heating and will causes high limit trips. On others it is insufficient
for cooling, and results in a lower capacity than provided by the system
that it replaced.
