I have a York thermostat #t872r1032. It was installed with my home in
1979.

I tried to instal a programable thermostat, and could not get it to
work.

To make matters worce, I've forgotten the wiring diagram.

I have seven wires Colors: Blue, Black, Orange , Yellow, Green, White
and Red

Does anyone know which color goes on which terminal??

My termanials are: B,X,Y,O,G,Y,R

Nobody can tell you what goes to where without knowing what wires are
attached to where on the other end, and make/model/serial numbers of all
associated equipment.

Put r on red. The rest don't matter, just hook them up on any
terminal. Good luck.

Model, AND serial number of the units? Air handler/furnace AND outdoor unit.

Here's what you do AL. (its the exact same thing any technician would
do)
1) turn off the power to all equipment
2) open up the controls compartment on the air handler, which is the
indoor unit.
3) find the thermostat wires and write down the terminal designations
for each color of thermostat wiring.
4) do the same for the out door unit.
5) using this new information, connect the appropriate wire to the
appropriate terminal on the thermostat.

Remember AL, the thermostat wiring colors are MEANINGLESS, other than
a means of identifying the same terminal desigations on each end of
the wire. (unless there's a splice joint in the middle nobody knows
about).

Oh, if you get any of them wrong, you may end up letting some factory
smoke out of a few parts. Practice makes perfect.

That is wrong. The terminals should be

B, O, O, G, E, R

Sounds like you have a bad thermostat. Try changing it out.
