Lots of suction at air filter panel, normal??
|
|
|
| Hi everyone,
I've noticed that when my forced air furnace is running, and I remove the
panel to access the air filter there's lots of suction. The panel door is
right near the blower motor.
When I remove the door, there's a much improved flow of air from the heated
air registers inside the house. I'm wondering if my airfilter is restricting
the air too much, or I simply dont have enough return air.
Is this normal? One thing I've not tried is to run the furnace with out a
filter for a few minutes to compare the suction. The filter is new, and a
high effeciency 3m type (supposedly filters fine particles)
Thanks for any insight or suggestions.

| Throw that filter out and get a media air cleaner.

There is a high probability that your return air duct work & grill is
too small. How can you tell? Measure the airflow. Using a tool such
as Testo 512 https://www.testo.de/US/en/shop/
Using the data obtained from correct usage of the tool and the blower
curve chart for your furnace, you will be able to determine the
precise airflow for your system in its current configuration.
Correct usage of the tool will also determine what effect your 3m
filter has on system airflow.
