Author High efficiency hot water tanks
Kevin Courtney, P. Eng.

2006-01-31, 10:21 pm

Greetings to all.

I was wondering if anyone has had experience with high efficiency combo
style hot water tanks. What I am concerned with is the life expectancy. On
the outside, it would appear that a high efficiecy tank would be an
excellent and much more affordable alternative to a boiler however, I doubt
that the tank would last as long as a conventioinal boiler. Any opinions?

Respectfully,

Kevin

His post is in the proper forum...its an hvac forum...home.repair would
assume he is trying to repair something.
Where in his post does it indicate he is trying to repair anything?

You aren't too bright are you?

Damn right this is the proper place for the OP to ask quesions.

Paul and his band of imbeciles should be ignored at all times and kill
filed by everyone using this group.

Imroves the signal to noise ratio remarkably well.

And paul -- rant and rave in your pathetic existence -- you are killfiled
in all your various combinations of addresses, so I'll never have to see
your foolishness.

How does it feel to know that you are a futile non entity?

Can you be more specific about what you call "high efficiency combo style
hot water tanks"?
Just ignore any XXXXXXX that replies and put them in your block sender list.

I would call high efficiency at 95% or better. One product that I am
interested in is at this link

http://www.americanwaterheater.com/...s/polaris50.cfm

I would like to us it to make hot water, heat my house with a hot water coil
and the existing furnace blower and also heat my garage hydronically. My
existing hot water tank is less than 50% efficient and same with my furnace.
Some payback analysis is in order. maybe i'm in for a surprise.

cheers Bob

Combo means combination, or in other words, the hot water tank is used for
heating and hot water. The two functions are 'combined' in one appliance.

Around here we call that a summer/winter hookup, or a boiler with a domestic
hot water coil.

This concept is more a hot water tank that wants to be a boiler as opposed
to the more common boiler that wants to be a hot water tank.

Depends on its orientation. Sometimes they are just made differently. It
ain't wrong, just different. Respect it for what it is and you won't have
any problems.
