Unless it is an electric furnace the setup you describe is utterly

Unless it is an electric furnace, --that setup would be an outrageous
violation of code!
The furnace blower will cause a reverse draw on the
If it is a gas or oil furnace the return air would have to be in a
totally sealed chamber under the laundry room.
It also has to meet code as to combustion air coming into the burners.
The blower's suction would also interfere with the correct delivery of
primary air (air mixture ratio with the gas prior to combustion) to the
burner(s) and combustion air mixture to the flames.
