Call to repair unit, or replace it?
|
|
| mark_mace31@hotmail.com 2006-02-18, 11:21 am |
| Hi, I don't know much about this subject, so please bear with me...I am
visiting from college, and just found out my mom had a problem with her
heat pump.
The heat pump will no longer shut off. The fan control at the
thermostat works, but no matter what, the outside unit continues to
run.
She switched the circuit breaker off upon realizing the problem.
The unit is 20 years old. If it matters at all, the unit is branded
"Payne high efficience heat pump", and is white/off-white with a green
grill. Again, if it matters, her house is a 20-yr. old double-wide
mobile home.
It was last serviced in June of '05. The service was to top off the
coolant, and "check it over", at least in theory.
She lives about 30 minutes from town, so I assume a service call would
be somewhat expensive for her. Should she call for a repair or would it
make more sense to just go for a replacement at this point? Thanks,

How the fuck are we supposed to know ?
Go post in alt.home.repair, and tell Moms to call her service
company.
And when you get back to school, sign up for a course in 'How
to ask an intelligent fucking question for a change'.

It sounds like a contactor is stuck closed and keeping the outside
section running. A contactor is a lot less then a new unit is.

Sounds like a simple and inexpensive repair....once its fixed, it will give
you time to start doing your homework for a replacement.

| You cheap bastard. You leave your ol mom in a 20 yr old dump of a
doublewide, while you are off in some nice dorm studying (to be an EE,
no doubt)? You should quit school right now and go move your mom into
someplace nice and go bash your head in with a rock for being so
uncaring. Now go stand in the corner and lick a window

Your thermostat has croaked. Replace it with a good quality digital,
especially one with Energy Star rating.

lol, uh...what the hell, I'll respond. I'm putting myself through
college (& I'm studying finance/economics).
And I know what you mean, if there's one thing EVERYONE hates, its

disgusting how much work some people will do for education!

"What we hate worse is college boys in general"
"Especially bean-counters"
Why? My ex-girlfriend's dad was an independendt AC/Heating contractor
for 15 years before his shoulder started giving out (before that he was
a sheet-metal worker). Then, he went to college and became a history
teacher. And I do plan on asking his advice as well, I just wanted
multiple opinions in case anyone else had more experience with this
problem in general.
& at least from my observation, Accounting is more the bean-counter end
of things...Finance/Ecnomics being more the decision-making end of it.
Although, the accounting textbooks also claim that "accountants aren't
really bean counters..." Which I disagree...but any way, so take what
I say with a grain of salt.

Well, Marky Mark, my opinion of bean counters and their decisions is they are
great as long as the entity is doing great. bUUUUT, when the inevitable speed
bump appears their "advice" is always the same: cut customer service, lay off
the grunts - cut their benefits & pensions, shield the upper management from
the truth because they want to keep their jobs, do the same thing to the next
tier of personnel, get the entity into another business focus - which they have
no knowledge or affiliation, get the entity ready to be bought by another
entity,,, peer out under the green eye shades while denying some grunts $15
meal on a holiday and over budget for $50 hotel stay (Holiday Inn Express)
while the execs get $90 lunches with fine wine and their ties cleaned at entity
expense to get the wine and butter stains out, figure out how the execs can
collect more money on the way out the door while they search for cheaper toilet
paper that has less tensile strength of a butterfly wing, writing rubber checks
to the grunts...

A lot of it is genetics. His dad was a drunk and his mom was a duggie

Here're a few old but good PG-13 rated limericks:
~~~~~~~~~
There once was a girl from Azores,
whose twat was infested with sores.
Tho' the dogs on the street
wouldn't eat that green meat,
which hung, like festoons, from her drawers!
~~~~~~~~~
There once was a lady from France,
who thought that she'd just "take a chance".
For an hour or so,
she let herself go.
And now, all her sisters are aunts!
~~~~~~~~~
Little Johnny, with a grin,
drank up all of Pappy's gin.
Mommy said, when he was plastered:
"Go to bed, you little bastard"!
~~~~~~~~~

The best one still has to be
"There once was a man from Nantucket...."

There once was a girl from Kincarden,
Who liked to give blow jobs in her garden.
I said to her "Flo, where does it all go?"
She looked up, swallowed, and said "Pardon?".

There once was this Canadian,
who timed things so circadian,
when he got out of rhythm,
he had a real scism,
and half of him spoke French after that.
God I'm good .........

There once was a man named Dave
Who kept a dead whore in a cave
Though she's smelly as shit and is missing a tit
Think of the money he's saved.

There once was a man from Trent
Whose dick was so long that it bent.
To save him the trouble
He put it in double
So instead of cumming he went.

There once was a man from Marceline
Who invented a jacking-off machine.
Concave or convex
it would serve either sex
But it sure was a XXXXX to keep clean.

There once was a lady from Wooster,
who dreamed a young man had seduced her.
She woke with a scare,
to find no one there.
A bump in the mattress had goosed her!
