Split AC rough in in poured concrete walls
|
|
|
| I am building an addition to my home in the Virgin Isalnds. The
consturciton is poured concrete. I am looking for solid suggesitons on
rough in for a mini split system. Ideally I'd like to put the drain,
suction and liquid lines all in one PVC pipe, in advance, prior to the
cement pour (electric will be in another pipe). Any thoughts? What size
copper should I use? Also, since I will have two units on a common wall
has anyone heard of split systems that can have their make up back to
back? All units I have seen have the make up on the right side, thus
requiring extra piping in teh walls. Back to back make up coul dallow
me to just have a single PVC pipe with both sets of refrigerant lines
and a shared drain. John

| Mini Split system? Are you sure thats what you want? I have installed many
of these but only for game rooms upstairs nothing with anything other than a
big open room.
The unit I like the most is a:
1 ton Mitsibishi Heat Pump 17 SEER 410-A system
It's great the compresser is variable speed the fan is variable speed. The
only down side is that there is no thermostat, its a remote control and the
replacment for it is about $220 home owners cost.
If thats what you want you need to run 5/8" copper for the Suction and 1/4"
copper for the Liquid. There is NO metering device so don't go over these
sized copper.

| 100% positive. I have installed 20 or so of these units. The seer rating
is achieved by variable speed in the compresser and an internal heater that
keeps the freon flowing through the system so when the unit cycles on there
is no wasted energy to get the freon to its boil off point.
