Heat pump not cooling
|
|
|
| My heat pump puts out heat without any problem. But when I change to A/C it
doesn't get cool. I am assuming that freon is require to use both the heat
and the A/C as we recently had the unit service and freon checked. What
could I expect during the next service call as to the problem?

Wow! She gets both? I guess she might need the 2for1 coupon from the Sunday
paper depending on what she looks like, and who goes out there.
Hey Wanda..... Make sure you get a new Digital thermostat to keep them
strips going. I'd say get an expensive one, but that's probably already
covered by your electric bill.

the reversing valve is failing to energize. its either an electrical
problem or a mechanical problem. carefully inspect the solenoid coil,
the mounting nut may have unthreaded. if all else fails, find a big
hammer.

Your winter freon level is probably OK, but the summer freon is probably a
little low. Have a tech come out and check the pressures and feel the pipes
while it is running. Probably all you need is three or four pounds of
freon.
Shouldn't cost more than $100. Argue with the tech if they try to sell you
anything else or do any other service.

| Ok, first off what brand of unit do you have? When you call for A/C at you
thermostat go outside and make sure that the condenser is running. If its
not then there may be a reset button (on newer systems) tripped, on Ruud and
Rheem it is red rubber button beside the freon lines going into the cabinet.
How old is the unit? How old is your house? Is the unit in the attic or is
it an Upflow? What size return air do you have? What size unit do you have?
What SEER rating is your unit? Have you high electric bills in the winter?
I will post more when you answer these questions, good luck.
