refrigerent recovery/recycling

| Had a class yesterday in Jackson on R-410a, heat pumps, A/C etc... refresher
for me...
anyway, the instructor (head tech rep for Rheem) asked about recycling used
refrigerent, and were did we take it?? Turns out that there is nowhere in
Mississippi to take used refrigerent for recycling. Anybody else have this
problem??
I guess its the same old problem of your tax dollars taking a nap.

I just bring it to the local supply house.
They charge a nominal fee for "clean refrigerant".
For mixed or contaminated, they charge more.
Taxes have nothing to do with it.
So....What DO you do with it?

Just because there is no facility there doesn't make it a problem.
I just take it to the supplier the sells me refrigerant. Usually a cost
that varies dramatically on what you bring back. Both the
pureness/contamination and if the refrigerant is still under patent.
Patented blends can't be recycled by any place without a patent license
for that refrigerant.

do you leave your reclaim jug(s) and take replacement ones with you?
does your refrigerant vendor recover from your jugs while you wait?
(STFU paul)
Steve, it sounds like you might have a real money maker. You sell a
new reclaim jug for every recovery you do, factor in your reclaim fees
and then tack on a fee for disposing the brand new jug at the
hazardous waste site. Now its the hazardous waste site's problem.

| There is nobody in Mississippi where I can take all my full cans to.....
there used to be a couple of places in New Orleans, but they are gone....
the buildings are not there anymore. Same on the coast.
My collection of full recovery cans keeps growing.

Jerry,
You missed the point completely.... *NONE* of the suppliers will take *ANY*
cans of *ANY* used refrigerent for recycling or disposal. It *IS* a problem
because I can't legally dispose of it.

Yup.. Its the hazardous waste sites thats the problem....or the lack of
sites to be more specific. There is no place to dispose of the stuff.

Hey Steve,
There's a URI shop in LA south of you that carries the disposable recovery
cylinders. They are quick and easy, When I get a full tank I just dump it into one
of these and its done. The price tag shown isn't what I pay, I pay less than half
that in our local branch. Don't know if this is close enough to you be worth while,
sorry that's all I could find.

Thanks Mike, but I asked you to wipe that jizz off your face before you
attempt to type to me, or anyone else in here.
Hows it feel to know that we knew what your butt buddy said, but just love
to fucking irritate the likes of you and he?
Must suck (yea..there is your favorite word again..suck) to think anyone
really cares about you Mike.

Even exchange on the jug, content processing charge depends on the
contents.
The cylinder exchange means I get one with a current hydro test data at no
charge.

I did miss that point. Perhaps find the nearest URI, transfer recovery
contents to one-time cylinders and make a trip whenever it is worth it.
The one timers can be filled once such as a transfer from a standard
recovery cylinder, no regulation I'm aware of on how long they can be
stored before taken to a proper facility.
That presumes you aren't dealing with stuff like R-290 which needs a
placarded truck to transport significant quantities of.
