Hi,

I moved into my 17 year old house around 3 months ago and I think it's
time to replace both AC and Furnace. I live in Toronto, Ontario
(Canada) and so far my number one choice in terms of price and quality
(I think) is the KeepRite brand. First I wanted to go for either
Carrier or Lennox and after getting a few quotes found out it will be
over my budget. Has anyone experience KeepRite before? If so for how
long? Are they durable? I want a high entry level efficiency one (maybe
dual stage). I'm planning to be in the house for at least 10 years but
with all of our current renovations plans we're a little tight on
money. Do you recommend anything else that would be cheaper than Lennox
and Carrier?

Thanks
MA.

They're fine. ICP, in Tennesee, owns both Carrier and Keeprite.
They used to built in Brantford.

Entry level is builders grade.
High level, two stage, is going to cost more.
Go with a high efficiency, single stage gas valve with an AC motor.

There are lot better than Lennox, and Carrier...the decission you will have
to make is do you want it cheap?? or do you want a top quality, energy
efficient system that should last for 20 years??

I guess he's gonna take a 19 year old furnace, thats been rode hard and put
up wet, install a new HX and charge enough labor for the cost of a new
furnace, and call it good?? BTW... *most* manufacturers entry level furnaces
are 1 yr P&L, 5 years parts, and 20 years HX. <yawn> so what else is new.

Yuh still arent sayin it right Steve.
The manufacturers dont provide the 1st year labor. You the installer
do. Im just gettin nit picky. :-)
Bubba
(and in the case of a new Goodman install, Id only pass on a 90day
labor warranty) Its cheap for a reason.

Bubba, it was explained to me like this: The installing contractor
warrantees the labor for the first 90 days, after that the
manufacturer warantees the labor for the remainder of the first yr.

I had a door swith fail on a furnace within the first ninety days and
came face to face with reality, as explained by that particular
manufacturer. btw, labor warrantees are pro-rated to a certain $
value per hour, not YOUR actual labor costs.
