| I posted this in a couple of Autocad NG's and thought I would post here too
to see if anyone has had this problem.
I recently upgraded my OS to XP Pro from 2000 pro. I use ADT 3.3 and when I
do a plot preview, acad crashes with a "Fatal Error: Unhandled Access
Violation Reading....."
I can plot just fine, just cant do a preview. Any ideas on how I can fix
this. I am having the same problem on my notebook that has XP Pro.
TIA,
-Rob

| I guess you have updated the video drivers?
DBM

| Yes, it is a new system with a new 256 MB ATI video card. The notebook also
has a 256 ATI video. I dont know if the problem is with the video or with
XP as both have the same things.

But you changed the OS. Did you get the latest video drivers for that OS?

Refresh me is ADT3.3 acad 2000 in disguise ?. if so it may not be vid
drivers, Theres a known acad bug, are you working in layouts and
changing layers in viewports prior to that function. I get crashes just
moving text on layout once I've done any layer changes.... bloody
frustrating because those operations are just prior to finishing a job
or deadline.....

| Since you are having trouble only when doing a plot preview, I would
suspect the printer(plotter) drivers. Try installing an up to date
plotter driver, whether you actually own the device or not, and see
what that does. In addition, upgrading a Windows operating system
never seems to get as good results as doing a 'clean install,' so you
may wish to consider blowing away the whole drive and doing a clean
install of the XP Pro OS.

Alright, when you say upgrade do you mean upgrade or fresh install? I
would do a fresh install of ADT, and if that doesn't work a fresh
install (not an upgrade install) of XP. You should always do a fresh
install of XP.

| Sorry, I needed to be more specific. When I upgraded, I built a new system
so everything is a clean install. I d/l'd the most current ATI driver but
that didnt seem to help. Everything else works great on the new system
This is just strange...

Are you running ADT from an admin acount or a restricted user account?

1) Check graphics drivers (known to cause problems)
2) Printer drivers in XP shouldn't affect ADT. I've got ADT 3.3 on XP SP2
and it's not been a problem, but I use an nVidia card.
3) Check to make sure you have the service packs installed for ADT, too. I
think there were 2 of them.
4) Once, we had a problem on a machine. Since we had ADT 2004, we just
plotted from it instead. Might be a work-around.
