I don't care though, the only reason I did him this small favor is for
the
"down the pipeline" job of doing a new home for him in the future....

I did that once and the client behaved just the same on the second job.

Yeah, but once you have him under contract......
But I know what you mean.
I have a similar situation right now, where I'm doing favors for a past
client in the hopes that I get his next *big dig*.

I've done 5 of those in the past 2 years. The behavior of 2 of them were
exactly like what you just mentioned. The other 3 were nice big jobs that
went extremely smoothly.

In a way, I like that these "I can do it myself" guys screw up and
eventually "see the light". I'd rather they learn on small things like
fireplace screw ups than on large ticket renovations...

True.
Once they've been bitten on the XXX good and proper they're more likely to
listen to reason.
