Don:
Well said.
It's harvest time and we are picking apples and preparing to make cider
(mostly soft, but some hard). Fall pruning is underway and of course
there is raking of leaves. I don't burn leaves anymore, but now shred
them for compost. These are fall chores that connect me with the land and
I'm better for it.
The chimney sweep is coming today to clean the flues and get us ready for
the winter. I have about 3 cords of wood split and stacked with more to
come in the next month. Again, the cutting of wood connects me to the
land and the things growing on it.
I can't imagine living in a place that doesn't have distinct seasons.
They remind us of the cycle of life and can make us slow down to
appreciate the world around us.
