And everyone knows that the aliens come from Andromeda, not Mars. They
come every 26,000 years to check our progress and collect specimens.

If we did a national rectangular survey today, how would it be verified
in 1,000 years? Not only might True North have changed, but there may be
a different North Star as well. Also, if the Earth wobbles, do the
meridians change as well?

I think that this would be a feasible and useful project, since the
original surveys in the U.S. Southeast, Texas and Louisiana were done by
non-standard means and measurements.

If this were undertaken, would we continue with Imperial measurements,
or would we finally switch to metric, like the rest of the world?
