I saw the comment as extremely insulting. But it's almost worse to be
told to 'lighten up', because IMO it comes across as being a bit
belittling - it's not like I'm here gnawing my wrists or planning
vengeance or anything like that, for goodness sakes. I just use the
plonk file <shrug>. I'm just very tired of, and bored by, "retorts"
that are so extremist that they deliberately end up being unconnected
with, and irrelevant to, the point that is supposedly under discussion,
and are nothing more than mere tangential theatrics specifically
intended to distract people and thereby short-circuit any sort of
rational, or at least semi-rational, discussion of a given situation or
of a given set of facts. It's what's called "specious logic", something
that, standing alone, might possibly seem to be a logical or factual
statement, but which is so outside the range of a given discussion that
it is, in reality, meaningless.
At the same time, I found the whole statement about fraud, etc. to be a
rather puerile tactic that deliberately took my simple question,
completely tossed it aside, and launched into a tirade that I perceived
as being intentionally insulting so as to cow me into acquiescing to the
writer's personal viewpoints. Such aggressive and/or offensive (in the
military meaning of the word) tactics have never worked on me, and
likely never will. So there is nothing for me to "lighten up", it's
merely that I no longer have either the time, or the energy, to waste on
that sort of silliness. I'd've forgotten about it by now except for
your reminder, so evidently, it bothered you more than it bothered me,
which I find a bit odd but hey, whatever floats your proverbial boat...
IMO, if you need to tell someone to 'lighten up', it'd be the OP, who
seems to rather obsessed with the supposed advertisement, and I only say
"supposed" because I personally didn't see it, not because I'm calling
anyone a liar ((and FWLIW, another thing I'm thoroughly fed up with is
the ever-increasing "need" to attatch such disclaimers, caveats,
explanations, and so on, to an also ever-increasing array of statement
types and topics)).
'Nuff said.
