| This is the famous Chartres cathedral shown
from multiple views including from the near-top
of the tower (300 steps up). It is a huge and magnificent
cathedral with flying buttresses, built in the 12th and
13th centuries.

Also note, the cost to reach Chartres from Paris is
EUR25 round-trip. Chartres is a pleasant small town
which has an excellent youth hostel with kitchen and
a decent archeological museum. The cathedral also
has a crypt that people seem to enjoy.

The inside of Notre Dame de Chartres is black with soot; it looks like
someone used it for a fireplace. Chartres itself is dreary, its better
to go to nearby Rambouillet

Une ann=E9e, nous sommes partis en vacances avec une escale =E0 Chartres.
Un de mes enfants, qui devait avoir quatre ans =E0 l'=E9poque, est rest=E9
deux heures en admiration =E0 contempler depuis un banc la fa=E7ade de la
cath=E9drale.
