| Hello Renovators and Builders
I don't want to come across as some sleezy salesman, but I am the
webmaster for Everyones' Home Internet Directory
(http://www.everyoneshome.com) and I believe that our service would
benefit everyone in this group. All are listings are geographically
specific and our catagories are listed by standardized, internationally
recognized codes (SIC codes, i.e. standardized Trade designations). I
would love to get some feedback on what people in this group think of
the site, so please feel free to tell us what you think, good or bad.

It's crap and nobody appreciates a spammer. Take your trash elsewhere!
(Damn, ServiceMagic sucks and your site is 10x worse)
Hope that helps!

| My apologies, I guess I underestimated the response that I would get
from these posts, I didn't mean to seem like a spammer, as a start-up
company we are dealing with limited funds. I had the belief that
getting the name out there in any form would help. With a little
hindsight on my part I see that I come across just like everybody else.
I will not post in these forums again for purely advertisings issues.
Apologies

| Hey Justin, the announcement is okay, its all a matter of context. Search
the web for newsgroup ettiquette documents and you'll see for yourself. Once
you find documents and read them also familiarize yourself with the term
"troll" that will be described in the same documents It was two trolls that
just tried to manipulate you and lure you with flamebait.
As for your site it is looking good but that's the problem. I've got some
years of web design and development experience so listen up now. Most people
on the web have become jaded and don't give a rat's @ss for Flash
animations -- unless used to convey meaningful information -- like tucking
pointing a chimney for example -- an animation I created with a gif to show
the several steps of re-flashing a chimney. Get it? Dump the Flash on the
entry page. Its worthless eye candy.
Secondly, the entry page will be much more effective in retaining users when
you engage them with content immediately. Get rid of the entry link A.S.A.P.
and show them the beef right away. That's the first rule of "sticky" -- just
like one of the first rules we learned when we were young -- stand up to
trolling bullies -- feel your fear but punch them in the nose -- really
hard -- and they will fall to their knees and lick your shoes or suck your
d!ck if you tell them to. Believe me, I have had more experience in life
than I have web development. That is exactly what both of those trolls are
looking for. Be cool and good luck with your directory...

| Clinton, thank you for some constructive critisim, I will take your
suggestions into consideration and discuss them with my boss after the
week-end. I really appreciate you taking the time to review the site
and respond

| Actually, I didn't play with the Canada -- USA "link" before responding.
That says something about the perception of a person who sees stuff on a
page that the intended meaning of a "control" can easily be misunderstood
and ignored.
After responding I went back and then realized it was the top-level part of
the navigation to drill down into the directory. Funny thing is I'm actually
building an alphanumeric picker control myself using C# and client-side
JavaScript. I'm definitely going to steal some ideas from you ;-) but note
using the Flash navigation was really clumsy and I kept losing the state of
my selection as the focus of the mouse roll-over kept getting lost. Its a
great idea you have implemented and for the most part very well done but it
was very aggravating trying to use it. That needs more work for usability.

| Exellent, thanks for the advice clinton. We are making the change over
to v2.0 of our database and making some other fairly major changes by
the end of October, I will be sure to discuss your comments with our
development team. Appreciate you taking your time to look and your
words of encouragement.
