The machine I'm currently on came with onboard sound and video.
(haven't touched this machine since we moved here to Hoosierville, its been
sitting in a closet)
I recently installed a soundcard and a video card.
But I couldn't get any sound out of the thing.
Uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, etc.
Tried different speakers.
Dabbled with the settings, etc.
(the onboard sound worked fine the last time I fired this up down in FL).
Then...........
.....I discovered my speakers were STILL plugged into the onboard jacks.
Plugged them into the new card and it now wailz.

Arrrrrrr...........
......is it 4:20 yet?...........

You likely need to disable the buil-in stuff via the BIOS...

Yeah, I already did that, first, after uninstalling the drivers.
Everythings functioning fine thus far.
This is an ATI all-in-wonder card and it has so many hookups and additional
things to plug in that it'll take me a year to figure it out.
Same with the creative sound card. Its a 2 piece version, the card itself
and a unit that slides into a drivebay on the front with some knobs, jacks,
etc.
Its in the Audigy lineup.
