So, Saturday night I threw a big bash for my wife's birthday and we were
left with a large bowl of lemon and lime quarters which were to be used for
water and drinks. The next morning, I decided instead of keeping them in the
fridge to dry-out and rot, I would just throw them in the yard to naturally
decompose. It wasn't more than 5 minutes and there were two does out in the
yard gobbling them up, peel and all. Thirty minutes later, all were gone. I
would have never guessed that deer (and these are fat & happy deer) would
eat citrus.

Stock clerk at local Dollar General said one customer came in and bought 12
22 lb bags of dry dog food (3 bucks a bag, cheapest available there). He
said the customer said they feed it to the deer.

We had a kitten last year that passed away from the horrible FIP viral
infection and I put our her remaining dry Science Diet kitten food for the
deer -- it was like they couldn't eat it fast enough.

Condolences on the loss of your kitten... :-(

Our vet vaccinates for FIP.

Thanks. It was unbelievable, I always thought of myself as a "dog person" if
*anything* having had a couple Golden Retrievers, Welsh Terrier (Terror),
etc. but that little kitten completely stole my heart. Both my wife and I
completely changed our lives for 3-months to care for her and when we
finally *had* to euthanize her, it was like the death of a child. That was
9-months ago and I still think of her every day. I always thought that
people who spend a lot of money on animals were crazy but in 3 months (she
was only 4.5 months old when she died), we spent $3500! OK, I still think
people who spend that much on a sick animal are crazy...call me crazy! lol

Mm, well, I _do_ suggest you change vets. ;-)

But, I have spent a lot on dying pets in the past, so I feel your pain...

Cheers!

We used 4 different vets, our regular one another for a second opinion and
two specialists. Unfortunately, FIP is one of those diseases, like rabies,
that can only be accurately diagnosed post mortem so we were trying
everything possible.

I understand...

While it's not possible to "replace" your kitten, there are thousands
that need homes at the shelters if you are up to adopting another.

Go save a life. It helps. Trust me. :-)

I agree. Our kitten was acquired from Emancipet, my wife's pet (no pun
intended) charity --- even though Emancipet typically doesn't do adoptions,
my wife just *had* to have this cute kitten when she went for a visit. We'd
*only* get a shelter kitty if we decide to get another.
