18 hp Briggs & Stratton, 2 cylinder. I've got gas in the crankcase oil,
and also oil coming out of the driver's side exhaust port.

I pulled the cover that exposes the valve springs and both valves seem
to be moving correctly, but I haven't pulled the head to see if the
valves are closing completely yet.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a bad fuel pump follow the fuel line if there is a cover
somewhere on the block it will have a diapram if it leaks gas will get in
the oil. Another possibility if the fuel tank is located above the engine
there will not be a fuel pump but if the float or needle valve in the carb
is leaking gas will get in the oil also. Hope this helps Russ
