| For what it's worth, ordinary cinnamon does a great job of foiling ants. We
had tried several things without success.
Sprinkling cinnamon powder on the door sills and other points of entry was
100% effective.
It doesn't kill them. They just don't like cinnamon so they won't go through
it..
(Come to think of it, I don't like it much either.)

For in the home we use Orange Glo, wood polish and cleaner. Comes in a spray
bottle. Look for it at your grocery store. Works like a charm, kills the
ants and keeps them away. After spraying leave for a while then lightly wipe
up excess. Much better than spraying poisons inside.

If it kills them...doesn't that make it sort of a poison?

I use window cleaner (e.g. Windex) the same way. For when you come
home and there are ants all over the dog food bowl or something. Kills
the ants quickly. Doesn't do anything to get rid of them permanently
but it does seem less toxic than spraying Raid or other ant killer
product in the kitchen. -- H

| All these poison and ant remediation ideas are well and good, but if
you intend to hire professional pest control specialists, don't use
these temporary remedies. They simply disperse nests and make the
ants harder to eradicate.

Actually they both show to have an LD50 for rats greater than 5000...so
they are about the same in toxicity. More toxic than most of the baits
used in ant control, less toxic than table salt.

| Cinnamon sounds like a mellofahess to me.
I sprayed a band around the house to keep them out and vacuumed the
stragglers inside for some time. Then I got smart and started to inspect
around the base to see where they were coming in and it never varied. Now I
just slightly spray that area outside whenever I see the first scouts
inside. This has worked for several years and I now get scouts only zero
or once a year. Not necessary to spray or lay down stuff inside at all and
the outside spray is negligible.
