Repair an electronic air purifier?

Hello, long time lurker here and now coming out of the woodwork to ask
a question, please.
I have one of those stand alone air purifier towers, looks very
similiar to the Sharper Image models, but smaller. Here's my problem
and I'm the cause of the problem. I took the collection rod out to
clean it and thought the wet cloth wasn't doing such a good job of
getting rid of the dust and dirt. Ding-a-ling me used a wet paper
towel that had a strong solution of Windex and extra ammonia to rid the
rods of crud. Well, you guessed it, now the rods will not collect the
dust. Have I ruined it completely, should I toss it, or just use it as
a tall doorstop??? Any way to salvage this to make the rods attract
and collect the dust now?
After everyone gets through pointing fingers at me and laughing, any
help would be appreciated.

Make sure non of the wires are broken and that any contacts are clean
and shinny.

Oooh ok, when I get home from work I'll take gander at the contacts
because on this one the wires are not broken. However, I do have one
the wires are broken (and no, I didn't break them) probably no chance
of getting that one fixed, is there?
Thanks so much for the help on the one I messed up!

It always was, is and always will be a tall doorstop. You just never
realized it. It was a waste of money unless you live every minute 6
inches away from it. If you want an electronic air purifier, get
something like a whole house Honeywell or Aprilaire unit mounted to
your furnace system. Now of course you also have the ozone issue you
have to think about.

It did help to cut down on the dust, of course no house is ever going
to be completely dust-free, but it did help. Also, I noticed strong
cooking odors disappeared rather quickly. No allergies here, thank
goodness, but I did like the fact that dust wasn't as much as a problem
as quickly as it has been since I haven't had it turned on.

Can't they put tubes on those things and run the ozone up to the ozone
layer? Wouldn't that make everything better?

I'm not criticizing, but what is wrong with cooking odors? I always
like it when I come home and smell food cooking. And later on, it's
like eating again without the calories.

| As Bubba states, those air purifiers are a POS. You were separated
from less of your money than you would have been seperated from if you
bought a Sharper Image, but you still got yourself screwed. Don't fix
it, it will work almost as well broken. Go buy a good air cleaner that
has a fan installed in it. Try April-aire or Honeywell as Bubba
suggested. What P. T. Barnum said applies here.
