| On a visit yesterday afternoon at my sister's home, my daughter (5),
had opened a box containing a special edition Barbie doll. She LOVES
Barbies and this one in particular took her fancy. My sister's 13 year
old daughter is a collector of Barbies and she has many of them. They
are
asking for $50 for the "damage" and replacement. I'm sorry, but my
daughter did not know any better at 5 years old. I can't afford to fork
over that much for a stupid doll that only taunted my daughter from the
dresser she was siting on. Kids can't help themselves. The doll isn't
really that bad shape as well, her hair can easily be brushed out and
the
clothes pressed with an iorn. After all, it was ment to be out of the
box, a stand came with for it to be displayed on. Her daughter has SO
many Barbies that they probably won't even miss this one or even have
the
collection decrease in value. My spoiled 13 year old niece is now
furious
and is holding a pathetic grudge against my duaghter and me becuse we
don't want to pay them back. My god!!! It's just a doll!! Get over it!

What your daughter does is your responsibility. Even if the doll was
inadvertently "damaged" it's still your responsibility. And collection
things should be kept in their original boxes, not on a stand, even if
the stand comes with it.
Is $50 worth ruining your relationship with your sister and niece?
Apologize to them (both you and your daughter), and pay her $10 a week
for 5 weeks---and don't miss a payment. Explain this to your daughter
and teach her a valuable lesson. This is a good time to start teaching
your daughter to not touch things that aren't her unless given explicit
permission.

of course it isn't - which is why it's silly and petty for his sister to
ask him for the money. it was her fault for leaving the doll in a place
where a 5-year-old could get at it.
