Author tree/shrub planting recommendation at 2,100' in western Massachusetts

I have a few acres and a house at about 2,100' elevation in western Mass.
I'm a forester so I know trees - the forests around here are a mix of
spruce-fir and hardwoods. I also know most of the native shrubs.

I suppose I can come up with some "plan" to plant some trees and shrubs
around the house- most of the 2 acres is open and when it snows, it all
blows to my front yard- so my main motivation is to plan trees/shrubs to act
as a snow barrier- but, I also like nicely landscaped yard.

I could always go out in the woods around here and dig something up - but
I'd rather not- I'd rather buy trees/shrubs from a store as that would save
time and effort. I'm very open to getting plants that are not native but
would grow here.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
