Author oiling slate?

I have a lot of Kashmir slate in my driveway as well as my walkway to
the front of the house. I want that "wet look" but not shiny and I don't
like the way acrylic sealers bead up water and not allow it to be
absorbed. Has anybody ever used oil on stone? Maybe a linseed oil base?
I realize that it will need to be recoated from time to time but I like
the look. I normally work with wood.

Maybe this is a crazy thought but I thought I would run it by you. I
live in southern California.
