I am looking to buy a ready made solar battery charger. I have an
opportunity to buy a 20 watt flexible panel, sans controller, that puts out
1.2 amps for $249 (US). Sam's Club carries a 45 watt unit (3 amps),on-line,
that sells for $392 and change (US). Ideally I would like something in the
6-10 amp range but haven't seen one. Anyone have links to such a charger?
Is the one at Sam's Club a good deal? What about the flexible panel, is
that a good price?

Thanks for any help.

For 20W, it might be OK, but in the 100W range you should expect to pay
around $400-$450 for a rigid panel, and less than $100 for a decent charge
controller.

You definitely want a charge controller. Batteries didn't last very long
before I added a $35 ICP controller. I see it online at Amazon. Search
icp "7 amp charge controller"

You could search the electronics hobbyist sites for plans and build yourself
one for a few bucks, but I'd rather buy something off the shelf for a few
bucks more.

GOOGLE: "solar controller" and you will get a good selection.

If you have a 100 AHr battery or larger, your charge rate is C/100 for the
solar panel you indicate. That is a very safe charge level... considered
trickle charge really. Depending on your load, you might not even need a
charge controller.

Not sufficient for daily use, unless your battery depletion by daily usage
is much lower than that. Depletion rate should be factored into your
equation.
