ok, 4 batteries, in series parallel for a 550ah pack at 12vdc.
50% discharge means you need to add 225ah back in.
might take about 4 to 6 hours to fully charge the pack, or thereabouts.

| This is the same question asked in another group and was answered with a very
comprehensive "depends" and each factor was described in fair detail.

| The main point is that it will take longer than 6 hours if the top
voltage is 14.2V.

The OP wants to replace 225Ahrs with a 55A charger, and you're telling
him it will take 6 hours. So far so good.....
But here http://tinyurl.com/aggb4 you wrote that with a 30A charger
*you* can replace perhaps 400 or 600Ahrs with a 30A charger in less
than 3 hours. Why should charging take so much longer at the OP's
place than at your own?

The generator has nothing to do with the time. Only in the case of very
small generators and very big battery banks does it become an issue. What
does matter is the charger, and the charging algorithm. The more amperage
the charge can supply in "bulk"phase, the quicker "absorb" phase will be
reached. The higher the voltage used during the "absorb" phase, the quicker
the batteries will reach float.
I suggest you try this by hooking your charger up to the grid and performing
the experiment.

Let's see if I can pull this off. That's 450 Ah total. Half would be 225.
At 55 amps it would, under ideal conditions, take just over 4 hours to
replace that amount of power. However, there are ineffeciencies which I am
unable to calculate but it is generally accepted that it is around 10% (I'm
sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong ;-). Also, battery chargers have
a tendancy to taper off as the batteries become more and more charged. In
actual practice I think it will take about 6 hours to reach a 95% or
slightly better charge assuming the batteries are in very good condition.
Aside from that I hope you are using the 7kw genny for other things while
you are charging the batteries as you only need around 800 watts for the
charger.

| Pay attention. You numbers are wrong. But then thats your base state.

After a month you have yet to supply the "right" <snorf> numbers. Who
do you think you're fooling? Why are you even giving advice on
charging given the ignorance you've demonstrated? Here, check out some
of your other previous "right" numbers - http://tinyurl.com/b5rux "It
also rated 150 Ohms. but the 200 Amp rating is intresting" and
http://tinyurl.com/ayffx "Its resistance is too low and as such does
not allow control down to less than around ten amps with the bosch.
Further control is used." What are we to think of a "solar power
consultant" who uses a 5hp engine to supply 100W, and chases a C100
charge rate for occasional backup charging? Even the greenest of
newbies would know better than to write such nonsense, but if they
did, they'd correct it rather than pretending that it was "right".

Well of course. But we still shouldn't let George get away with
deliberate deception. If you think a "professional" could accidentally
come up with this whopper http://tinyurl.com/aggb4, then I'd like to
read your explanation.

| Forget it, Vaughn!
These two doorknobs have been trying to outpiss each
other since at least mid 2003. Neither one of them has
the maturity to use their killfilters, like thousands
have done for them, across Usenet. I think it must be
some sick form of making love for them.....LOL
(watch what comes next...more child's play)
