| I am looking for the right group to discuss ideas relating to heating
your home with coal. I just lit my coal stove yesterday (12th year
heating my house this way) and was looking to find other people out
there who might use this as a primary winter heating fuel.
Thanks,

| Well, you can't even buy coal around here, so it is not really an option.
I tried to get some a few years ago. Outside of a few places in Pennsylvania
and Ohio, I don't know of anywere where it is still used much for home
heating. It makes sense from a cost perspective only if you don't have to go
too far to get it.

That is true, of course, of all fuels. Particularly, solid fuels such as
corn, pellets, wood, and (as you said) coal. If they are not commonly available
locally in wholesale quantities, you are bound to end up the loser. It is
amazing how often this simple factor seems to be left out of discussions of home
heating alternatives.
